Psalm 139: 14-15 "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth."
How do you feel about yourself? Just be honest and really think about that. If you feel absolutely great about yourself, good for you. If not, why? Think about something that made you feel less about yourself. Maybe someone made jokes about you because of your weight or because you looked weird or something. Maybe even someone said that you was a "nobody" because of the money you didn't have or you didn't dress the way the "norm" defined it.
Let me tell you something: your worth is NOT defined by ANY of those things that I mentioned above. Your worth is not defined by money, the labels society puts on you or even by your past. YOUR WORTH IS DEFINED BY JESUS DYING ON THE CROSS FOR YOU ONE DAY!!!!
For too long too many of us have let others define our worth and how valuable we are. This capitalistic/materialistic will say that you are valuable as long as you have the nicest house, nicest car and the biggest amount of money. Many people feel worthless because they either lost money somehow or because they live in an apartment, drive a peanut car or living pay check to pay check. Now please understand that I am not advocating a mindset that you should stay down and not move forward. What I am advocating is that you SHOULD NOT view yourself valuable based on your material possessions.
Jesus Christ dying for all of us is what our worth is defined by. John 15:13 says "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." In other words, Jesus showed the greatest demonstration of love by dying on the cross for a sinner like you and me. For Jesus to die on the cross for us symbolizes our worth to Him. If we were worthless then Jesus could have simply came down from the cross and saved Himself. But no, he chose to stay on that cross and be atonement for our sins. That should be enough to remind you that you are valuable to God NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE IN LIFE!
Today I encourage you to walk around in holy confidence as being chosen by God based on His son, Jesus Christ dying on the cross for you. As we do this let us also encourage one another DAILY and AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE in this truth! No more shall you let society dictate your worth. Today you shall let your worth be determined by Christ dying on the cross. Will this change of mindset happen overnight? No it will not. This is why we need continual encouragement, admonishment and feeding of God's word into our lives. Some think that we don't need continual encouragement and I beg to differ because of the complexities of life.
I want to end with this verse from 1 Peter 2:9-10, "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy."
